I had been used to shaving with just water, no pre shave, post shave, or shaving creme. I have been using this recently when shaving (with shaving crème) and I have found it is both more comfortable and less irritating (shocker I am sure) and that I get a better shave all in all. By better, I mean I feel I get a closer and cleaner shave with using it as opposed to without. It is easy to apply and spread. It is on the oily side, as in it will coat ones hands and they will need to wash it off, but other than that no issues. I do not find it to have a strong scent but I have not paid close attention to that either.I would recommend this.

My husband has never tried products like this before so I decided to order him this as a treat. It smells nice and really does give the skin a nice lubrication. He hasn't had any bad reactions to the oil and said it helps prep and soothe his skin for shaving. He seems to like it.

this is a heavier feeling oil than most preshave/beard oils, but still performed well. Mild neutral scent is a plus

Nice aromatic oil for shaving my face. Prevented rash from blade and helped with a closer shave. Left skin feeling soft and smooth.

Now THAT'S a close shave! This came in a padded envelope and shipped quickly.Using this makes shaving a lot better. I shave my head daily and this helps reduce irritation and nicks. It also has a nice "woodsy" scent.I would certainly recommend adding this to your shave routine.

I like this oil. It's made from natural ingredients and it doesn't irritate my skin I felt like I got a closer and smoother shave. I did not get as much razor burn as I usually do, which is nice. I just wish it smelled good; it smells like vitamin e oil which is fine (good if you're looking for unscented or really mild).

So, in hindsight, I'm thinking maybe I should try the complete TCM Collection of products to make a comprehensive assessment of this pre-shave oil. Let me elaborate.First of all, I love the scent of this oil! There's something about the combination of its ingredients that evokes vanilla undertones for me. I wet my face with warm water and put three or four drops in my palm. That small amount seemed to go a long way as I spread it on the stubbly area of my face. Right away I could feel the softening effect it was having on my face. I followed up the TCM pre-shave oil application with another brand of shave gel. When I started with the razor, it was like butta (a.k.a. butter). The razor just glides so smoothly I wondered if it was actually cutting my facial hair. Once I'd finished shaving and rinsed my face, I saw that some of my softened facial hair had just laid down and the razor passed right over it. So, I had to repeat a few strokes of the blade to get the clean look I wanted.By the next morning, I'd developed some razor bumps on my chin. (Did I mention that I have curly facial hair?) I don't normally get a lot of razor bumps, but this time I did. That was disappointing. Defeating razor bumps was the main reason I wanted to try this product. The next couple of times I used this oil, I discovered that I could get a fairly smooth and close shave using just the oil -- no shave cream or gel. But, same bumpy result within 24 to 48 hours of the shave.Right before I started writing this review, I decided to watch the TCM product video for the product listing. Surprisingly, it suggested that I start out with a hot towel on my face before applying the oil. Plus, it seems like all the products in the TCM line work together. Admittedly, I haven't tried the hot towel treatment. For now, I'm going to deduct one star for the razor bumps, but I hope that I can try the other products in the line at some point to see if I can achieve a better result. For those of you keeping score, here's the breakdown:Scent- AEffectiveness- BValue- BOverall Grade: B
East to West
This TCM preshaving oil does not completely substitute for shaving foam or gel, but it adds to the shaving experience and provides other benefits. The more we use it, the more we notice its effects of conditioning the skin. As part of the shaving routine, this pre-conditions tough beard hair and lends a slick layer of base lubricant. This might not be for anyone, but I find I like the effects and I think it is worth the added step. This is a great gift for the shaver who has everything (or, it can be used as a beard oil, or even just as a skin conditioner).

The thickness of this oil is just right for shaving. It's a great value for the money and keeps you from shaving little nicks into your dry, itchy skin. It smooths the way for your blade.

For years I just applied shaving cream and went at it. I discovered shave oil when I began shaving with a safety razor. I have since abandoned that and went back to the multi-blade. However, I kept the shave oil routine. I just apply before shaving cream and wait a bit. Apply shaving cream and wait a bit. Then it's smooth shaving from there. TCM's oil is just as good as the rest I have tried. It works especially great when I have some hard stubble.

I got this for my husband as he experiences razor bumps and ingrown hair from shaving and he loves it. It has helped prevent the razor burn and bumps and he has had less ingrown hairs since he started using it.
Moderate Risk
TCM Men's Pre-Shave Oil is between a medium and light weight oil. It was light weight enough to where I wondered if it would be effective against nicks and cuts but so far I have yet to suffer a nick or cut so it does apparently provide good lubrication. Just as it claims, it leaves no significant residue after shaving. If you are new to shaving oil, it is not meant to be a substitute for shaving cream. It provides a lubricant base for a closer and smoother shave. Water should not be put on the face before using this oil since the best results are achieved when it has direct contact with dry skin. After it is applied, put shaving cream over it. I prefer a badger hair shaving brush with container shaving cream. The dispenser for the shaving oil is easy to use.

I am really happy with this pre shave oil. I typically only shave very 3-4 days and I always have a problem with nicks and cuts because my skin is so sensitive. I have tried different types of shaving creams and razors and while some are better than others I still usually wind up looking like I am auditioning for a horror movie. After using this oil a few times before shaving I was pleasantly surprised. The underside of my neck was as clean as it has ever been. Definitely recommend!

This men's pre-shave oil worked great for shaving and really lubricated my face for being shaved and left my skin feeling moisturized

I tried this shave oil with a straight edge because I wanted to get extra slickness. This shave oil works well and it definitely helps. It does seem a little pricey for how much you get but they do put in some quality ingredients. I don't use it too much because each time I use it I would get a pimple or two if I don't wash my face well afterwards.

Hubby says this really helps out when he shaves. Less irritation and ingrown hairs

This TCM Men's Pre-Shave Oil works well. It is rather thin and runny, but since I usually apply it with wet hands, the oil beads up between water droplets and stays on my palm. After rubbing this oil in, I do get a smoother shave with less chance of razor burn. It also washes off my skin with a bit of soap after I am done shaving.I do think this is an expensive bottle, but it will last me a while given that it doesn't take much to do both my legs. (Yeah, it is marketed towards men, but it works fine for women. There's no reason it wouldn't.)

I consistently use pre-shave oil prior to shaving. I ran out of my usual pre-shave oil and decided to try this instead. It has an interesting consistency - is has a viscosity similar to massage oil. In addition to adding some lubrication, I definitely felt like it added some level of moisturizing. It was a really close shave, which was nice. After, I definitely had some residue, but after I splashed some water on my face, it all washed off. Overall, I think it is a good product, but the price point is pretty high considering it is only 2 ounces.

Wow. reading the ingredients, this has 7 different types of oils in it (and vitamin E) -- not sure what the benefit of all those oil types are, but if you have any allergies to any types of oil, make sure you check the label. I don't have any issues with the variety of oil types, I just thought it was interesting. The good news is that the ingredients all look safe and natural so no concern about putting this on my face.I tried this a few times with both an electric shave and along with shaving cream and a double edge safety razor shave. In both cases, it lubricated well. The first time, I used too much and both my face and hands got pretty oily and of course that it a bit tricky to get off without alot of soap to break down and remove the oil. The second time, I was careful to use a much smaller amount (a couple of drops), but it still felt a bit oily to me. Now after applying shaving cream and performing the shave, I didn't really detect and remnants of oil, so I am not saying that is a problem. I guess I am just not a huge fan of putting something this oily on my face. In fairness, I don't really get a ton of skin irritation when I shave (don't have particularly sensitive skin) so there really isn't a big upside to me in applying oil. I suspect that those with sensitive skin may benefit from this more than I did and thus it may be worth applying the oil to their face -- just depends on what works for your skin type and shaving type.Overall, this is not a good fit for my skin and shaving type -- I really don't need the extra lubrication and thus prefer not to apply the oil preshave. You experience may differ if you do experience irritation when shaving or have sensitive skin.

as good as any other
